Beginner Level

For dancers aged 18+. This level is designed for those who are newer to ballet, or who are returning after a long break. However, this level isn’t suitable for absolute beginners, who have never done ballet before. Ideally, you will have been taking two Beginner ballet classes per week for one year.

We’ll focus on building a strong foundation in posture, alignment, turnout, and coordination.

You’ll work on the fundamentals at the barre and in the centre, including basic positions of the feet and arms, simple port de bras, tendus, pliés, dégagés, and introductory centre work. We’ll begin exploring simple balances, basic turns such as quarter and half turns, and small jumps, with an emphasis on clarity and musicality rather than speed or complexity.

Instructors will break down combinations clearly and offer modifications so you can move at a pace that feels comfortable and supported.

Intermediate Level

For dancers aged 18+. This level is designed for those with a solid technical foundation and consistent training. Ideally, you will have been taking two Intermediate ballet classes per week for about two years.

You should feel familiar and confident with the structure and sequence of a ballet class, and be comfortable executing single pirouettes, chaîné and piqué turns, and basic petit allegro with clarity and control. Currently, you may be working toward double pirouettes, more intricate transitions, and increasingly articulated footwork.

Classes will continue to refine alignment, turnout, strength, and coordination, while challenging your musicality, dynamic range, and quality of movement. Barre work will move at a steady pace and incorporate more complex combinations, with an emphasis on precision and épaulement. In the centre, you’ll encounter longer phrases, layered port de bras, travelling turns, and more rhythmically varied petit and grand allegro.

Our instructors will offer options to increase or decrease complexity, allowing you to tailor the experience to your needs while still feeling appropriately challenged. Remember, simple doesn’t mean easy! Clarity, control, and artistry are always the goal.

If you have any questions about the level, please contact us using the button at the top of the page! We’re more than happy to chat.

You’ll love this intensive if…

  • You want to learn! Our teachers are here to answer all the questions you’ve always wanted to ask.

  • You’re curious about a science-based approach to ballet. We’ll explore anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics in seminar sessions and in ballet class.

  • You want to meet new friends and expand your community.

  • You want a lot of studio time. We’re aiming for 25+ instructional hours.

  • You want to push, but not break. While we’ll provide a lot of studio time, not all of that time will be spent pushing to the max.

Schedule

Below is a tentative schedule which is subject to change.

Some classes will be both groups together, but technique, repertoire and ballet focus will be separated by level, Beginner or Intermediate. Pointe and Pre-Pointe will also be two separate classes.

Physio Seminar

In these sessions, we'll dive into common ballet misconceptions and really myth-bust anything you're struggling with using Chloe's expertise in anatomy and injury, sports science and classical ballet training. We'll talk about the topics that interest you most, and we'll apply practical tips and exercises to ballet movements. A bit seminar, a bit workshop, a bit conditioning, and a lot of lightbulb moments!

Meet Your Instructors

  • Photo of physiotherapist Chloe Rowlatt in a blue shirt.

Chloe Rowlatt, BSc (hons), BA (Hons), MCSP, ARAD

    PHYSIO SEMINARS, PILATES, PRE-POINTE, STRETCH

Chloe is a former professional dancer turned physiotherapist.

She graduated from Ballet West with a BA (Hons) in Dance, qualifying for the semi-finals of the Margot Fontaine International Ballet Competition in Australia.

She coached and worked with local dance schools and university clubs on technique and choreography for various festivals and competitions. It was during this time that she began seeking medical help for her own ankle, knee and hip pain.

She retrainted and graduated from the University of East Anglia with a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy. She worked in several private clinics where she refined her physiotherapy skills (acupuncture, dry needling, cupping, shockwave therapy and more). She couldn’t stay away from dance, and set up cross-training and Pilates for dancers, and strength and conditioning classes at local clubs.

Chloe currently works with Prehab Performance Specialists to bring education and awareness in injury prevention and rehabilitation for dancers, and safe dance practice for all.

They work onsite with West End and television shows, and see vocational, freelance and recreational dancers in their clinic.

Long-term, she wants to see a bigger change in the performing arts industry in both physical health and general management.

    Why I chose Chloe:

I appreciated Chloe’s up-to-date cross training tips on social media, especially her approach to flexibility, which is the antithesis of my traditional teachers’ advice of ‘sit in the splits before class’. She approaches ballet training from a scientific, anatomical perspective, which is exactly what I was looking for. Then, meeting in person absolutely sealed the deal. She is warm, enthusiastic and so full of passion for what she does. She has brilliant ideas and has been able to articulate a shared vision so much better than I ever could.

  • Headshot of Richard Bermange in a blue-grey t-shirt.

    Richard Bermange

TECHNIQUE, CONTEMPORARY BALLET, BALLET FOCUS, REPERTOIRE

Richard is a London based choreographer, director and teacher. Having enjoyed a varied performance career, he has had work commissioned both in the UK and internationally.

He was appointed Creative Director of English National Ballet YouthCo in 2019, and he received a masters degree in choreography from the University of Kent.

As a dancer, he performed with K-Ballet Tokyo, Tivoli Ballet, The National Ballet of Ireland, English National Ballet, Peter Schaufuss Ballet, Opera North and English National Opera. He trained at Central School of Ballet and was a recipient of the OneDanceUK Leadership Mentoring award in 2015/16.

Richard is also a choreographer, movement artist and director. He creates work across a varied spectrum of professional engagements; from full evening classical works to contemporary narrative dance theatre, to musical theatre, film and TV.

    Why I chose Richard:

Richard establishes a wonderful, relaxed energy in class, and he’s one of the few teachers I’ve had as an adult that give corrections and dive into technique in drop-in classes. He does and excellent job giving options to simplify or make combinations more complex depending on what you personally want to work on that day. His contemporary ballet class offers the opportunity to move a bit more freely within a classical framework, and his music choices there are chef’s kiss. His classes are truly a joy.
